It is hard to react to the reactions but it all seems a lot of overreaction.
The Dean mess is the message.
A "Big Tent" versus "THE MESS" Tent.
The Bush mess is the "Mess Age".
If generalizing were a crime, there would be a lot of pundits and pols in lock-up.
If the particular truth were told, the media is much of the mess.
If context is ignored, you only have "the con" text.
If Dean is not dividing, then what would be the need for a "BIG TENT"?
If Dean is the focus, then what about the mess we are in?
If the media overreacts to Dean, at least the multiple reactions include issues that the troops are working on.
That is the dilemma of staying on message.
You may get a "Mess Age".

Oh Sasha!
Norman Goldman fielded a call[**] from a very enthused non-voter. Change has not come fast enough for her. It is reminiscent of my tent link.
[Re: big tent, small tent or mess tent, there is a mixed message and metaphor. A tent requires a few poles, and it is hard to believe that Sasha was a big "D" Democrat, but I hope she was there at the precinct and district level having her voice heard and supporting like minds if she found them. Then she might also understand the small "d" of democracy. If not, she might not begin to understand[*] but can certainly make a lemon from the lemonade.]

Attorney General Gonzalez Retreats.
Congratulations Congressman Inslee.
The people have prevailed and more thanks to Daily KOS early on.
The New York Times was of help and the other Dems.
technical difficulties and other work keeps this brief

Did Hillary Shoot Dems in the Foot?
In snooze mode this AM I heard something about a False Flag charge on the Stephanie Miller Show> Could it be this on the politics of fear? The political calculus is the fear at Rock the Truth as well.
On the strength of the comments from Democratic candidates they rate in the following order.
Kucinich: no comment. Already tough enough, already standing up.
Richardson
Edwards
Dodd
Obama: no comment?
Clinton
Standing up for what? Impeachment is the only way.
Standing up now is the way to tell who will stand up as President or is political calculus just using ones toes?
OK! This brief ramble is just about not falling for the Republican meme. Getting the message out that Democrats are not the problem and any problems will be the Republicans. Of course even in retreat, Bush blames the Democrats. See first story. Hence the need to pursue continued investigations and not let anyone off the hook.

BIG TENT v. MESS TENT
Do I need to explain the frame?
BUSH'S WAR
THE FRAME
REGIME CHANGE
I have not read all the above links although my word play may foreshadow.
The following was more timely.
To Trent Lott:(5-18-02: Though parts may have been posted later)
The President said today: "Had I known that the enemy was going to use airplanes to kill on that fateful morning, I would have done everything in my power to protect the American people." It must be noted that he was very careful in saying it. I think that few would claim that he knew anything, but rather demonstrated a great lack of intelligence.
The following applies to what is despicable about this matter. It is represented in your May 17th posting: "Senate Republican Leader Urges a Quieting of the 9/11 Terrorism Rhetoric". I agree with your statement, "We should knock down the rhetoric." Unfortunately, much of your portions in bold contained too much rhetoric and the rest was sometimes reasonable yet too often defensive and blaming if not unimpressive rambling.
If you'd stop wasting time blaming the "blame America first" crowd, you could concentrate on your intelligence briefings and your job instead of being depressed and nervous about too much information in the press.
(Below Sent to Local Papers)
It is the height of hypocrisy and ironic that Vice President Cheney should warn the Democrats about taking partisan advantage of the attack on the World Trade Center or using incendiary language, after their use of the September 11th photo-op and the words they have so often chosen. Granted that there may not have been enough information to rise above the background and know exactly what to expect, only enough apparently to plan for a war.
Given that the administration turns its back on world justice and the International Criminal Court and has justified any means to fight terrorism, or defend our sovereignty, it is no wonder that violence has been established as a solution. If civilian collateral damage is accepted routinely, and lack of a declaration of war and consulting with congress are accepted without passionate argument, then it is no wonder that someone could attack us.
Apparently it was the case that a war was about to be declared by the administration and that one was already declared against the U.S. by terrorists. It may even be that threats were made by the administration that included threats of war (direct and indirect) and given the administrations record there is much to support that if they were up front about anything it was that a declaration of war was not necessary. In fact the language the president often used was tantamount to declaring war all the while acknowledging that we would not telegraph our blows.
Again, is it any surprise that an enemy would use the same tactics? Apparently surprise is the most the administration will admit. Instead of investing more power in our intelligence operations, we should more intelligently use the powers we have. Oh, and it would help if we use the laws we have too.

Not Exactly ... Patron Saint of Process.*

* 5-18-15
It used to be called the big tent. I relate this to a big table in the age of Share 'n Angle.*
"Now the president is staking his reputation on a trade deal that is increasingly likely to be seen as a joint Obama/GOP initiative. If he succeeds, his legacy may suffer a mortal blow, and his party is likely to pay a terrible political price in years – and elections – to come."
A. It could have the effect of growing the Warren Wing.
B. There are outside of the trade-deal elements of legislation that have been obstructed and need support. Infrastructure, wages, Affordable Care Act, etc.
The problem with his legacy won't hold a candle to the problem with that of congress's.

Who Let the Dogs Out?
Original reaction: Not to Second Guess.
This idea coalesced from a Melissa Harris-Perry(*) panel and a Jared Bernstein reaction.
What irritated me was the piling on upon Mitt Romney. The second guessing was how Jared Bernstein discusses the context he was taken out of. As the panel on MH-P continued after her weigh-in on words via Barack Obama the segment on Word Police had nothing to do with my change, but everything to do with it; change and context and victim hoods. Not to mention "quote(s) from Nerdlandia" creeping into the X-change. King County Executive
It is hard to have any wise cracks other than the one that got me flagged by my provider. May Day! It was maybe too much on the light and the dark side of the plumbing of politics with my source dump. But we do have a problem. Tuesday night's forum moderated by NPI's Andrew Villeneuve brought the four Democratic candidates together. It might be a reminder to all that participated who we are.
An off hand report? If my comments are minimal, it is hard being a cross between Obama and Dean,(pragmatic and fair and balanced: Eyaah!)but we have a big tent and more at the table.

The 2010 campaign has just begun. It is very apporpriate that the politics has just become fired up. After all, Democrats have been busy doing their jobs*, and there are so many checks and balances from the big tent diversity of the likes of the Blue Dogs or as some would say corporatists or others say capitalists, (the right are just prostitutes(some used a different word) for the trickle-down. Take Back the American Dream
The 99%?
Jobs not cuts!
Occupy K-Street etc.
Big Tent Technical Difficulties.**
[Are we ready for some football?] [!]***
[continued 10-4]I feel like I have broken something in recent days. Maybe my perspective. Maybe I need to change fields. The above lede is an example. Maybe I don't feel like occupying anything. I am encouraged by the generation of interest and a movement of the people. Maybe nailing down what that is is the problem. Someone from one of the groups at the conference expressed concern that they not be co-opted by unions or the Obama campaign. That seemed an interesting perspective, as if they are on the same page. Back in 1787 when the Constitution was being worked out, conservatives pointed out that what John Adams called "the rabble" couldn't be trusted to elect representatives or - even more dangerously - become elected officials. As the father of modern conservative thought, Edmund Burke (1729-1797), famously noted: "The occupation of a hair-dresser, or of a tallowman [candle maker], cannot be a matter of honor to any person - to say nothing of a number of other more servile employments. Such description of men ought not to suffer oppression from the state, but the state suffers oppression if such as they, either individually or collectively, are permitted to rule."]

Moving forward and looking back.
It is a two way street.
Crimes are always committed in the past.
We must address the first 100 minutes,
the first 100 days,
and we must use the "I" word and the "S" word.
"I" is for investigations.
"S" is for swearing under oath.
These two must lead to wherever they lead,
be it impeachment or supoenas,
or we will never make it forward.
In case I have not put it here,
I will repeat it from elsewhere.
The Democrats are a big tent party,
there is plenty of room for tables, now we can pull up the Chairs.
People must be pushing for the principle of law.
If the Democrats don't push for it,
the people won't push for them,
and Republicans certainly won't change.

DEAN SCREAM!
Before I forget...
Congratulations!
on a big tent to put all the tables in.
Go Pelosi and Reid! Now pull up the Chairs.
No dancing in the end zone,
the "hard work" has just begun.
FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!
For their own good they will appreciate the new divided government.
Meaning separate branches, oversight and checks and balances.
Even if the Democrats cannot unite,
together or separate they can still do their jobs.

Canard Lines
Special thanks to Rachel Maddow for her word of the day.
Canard.
I would like to reserve passage on that bumper sticker,
as Straight Talk Express takes to the seas with Flip-Flopper Crafters: apparently if it looks like a duck...
I think that vets should be up in arms over use of the term Swiftboating for any sort of political campaign. Not literally, but then we should be careful with language. My point is that I guess it is fair game if you want to be gung ho about your truth, but it would be better to know nuance and the difference between being defensive and taking offense, not to mention being being straight or able to lead.
[7-2-08: Over the years, terms have been highjacked or meanings adapted but this takes the cake and bites. Speaking of irony (clad) will wonders never cease? My real point is that Swiftboaters should be honored for their service not for the Flip-Flopper Crafting of the truth. You see I had to be straight about it because the mixed metaphors are probably lost or just pull the triggers or push the buttons of those that have experienced real anecdotes while now being used for weapons of rhetoric. In fact if one wants to circle ones wagons, leave the women and children in and let the truth out. Pardon the antiquated terminology(non-PC-ness)*, it is hard to keep ahead of the curve of progress, but is better than getting ahead of history.]
[MSM **is a big part of this problem in contrast and conflict to: Clark In Context : Slamming Wesley Clark
* another canard, not that it can't be talked about
** Main Stream Media (see comments embedded on MSM) and note that I did not see the original exchange on Face the Nation but here is the closest I found after posting above, while I did hear actual snippets and Clark defending himself and making a good case for why questioning the use of a record is not dishonoring the service, despite what writers put in their headlines or teasers for attention.***]
*** these asterisks(**) need their own asterisks for the sake of closing a loop or the long story short, the MSM is part of the tent, not just the mess, now that the people feel the need for more involvement and there is need for more attention to the process. One can respect the service of more than just the military, but should also have more than faith in the three branches of government and the distinguished press.

The New Compendium
NOT!
Really...probably not.
But it sounds like an epoch
and not quite an anthology,
but hopefully not an achronism.
THE POINT?
A cover page of sorts.
Yeah that's the ticket!
...the dynamics of progress,
Six Things Everybody Knows About Deficits ...
That Are Completely Untrue
Which I rephrase as truths:
1.) Current and future spending are not the problem with the defecit, except for paying for our history.
2.) Social Security is not a big deal to fix(separately), but could be impacted by the budget and other decisions.
3.) Austerity and investment are different stories, that both have an impact on the budget and winning the future as well as the now.
4.) Concessions should not be trickle down but incentives should be target up.
5.) Wall Street is not fixed enough to be that big or permanent a part of the solution.
6.) Social Security is not on the same budget table as Medicare and Medicaid and calling them "entitlements" is misleading, and means testing or tax changes could address their impact on our economy.

The King Tut of Rhetoric
Not to mention Divagation.
BTW: Going Egypt depends on who you ask, and I am not asking Stephen or Steve King***. And Going Wisconsin should not mean Going Cheesehead*. But I will tie this up with a preamble. If I may paraphrase and extend the remarks of a caller to the Norman Goldman Show: If you are not for "a more perfect Union" you may be Un-American. If you are not willing "to promote the General Welfare" you may be militant against "the Blessings of Liberty", but one can take words (and rhetoric or puns) too far. I suggest the word militant not be used, and that nowwhere near the tactics be used in political protests** but just who expects whom to turn the other cheek? There seems to be a slippery slope in the free speech zone.
* my original intent was a pun on Ed Head, which is not a Soft Head, but then there may be a lede to leader in the eventual link.[I believe it was a caller to the Ed Schultz Show that lead me to independently think that the failure of unions in Wisconsin would put a whole new spin on the name Cheeseheads.]
** the right to protest and any intent to break the law, includes the right to be arrested but not beaten, though we should understand that resistence is not futile but few put up with it well
*** see previous clause "divagation" link and prior line "Tut" for the two Kings.
